  1. Stick to it!

My husband and I began a similar if not more critical adventure. Four weeks ago he was given a dreaded Type II diabetic diagnosis – ironically on a Tuesday. He is a very young man (only 32) but built like an NFL Lineman. On the positive, the doctor said with an extreme life change, he could eventually get off the meds and back to ‘normal’.

    Know you aren’t suffering alone.

  2. Keep it up Tom- I lost about 15 lbs a few years ago and one thing that I found that worked is food substitution. So for example, instead of drinking soda, I switched to unsweetened seltzer or unsweteend ice tea with only one teaspoon of sugar. I also switched over to black coffee (dumped milk) and pita bread (100 calories per sandwich) for sandwiches instead of leavened bread (aka normal bread) which is like 200-300 calories per sandwich. Just my 2 cents. Also, for deserts I found that individually wrapped things (like hershey’s kisses) are pretty handy because you have to think about it before you eat it, rather than just popping into your mouth. For example- I can usually be happy unwrapping and eating six hershey’s kisses (it feels like a good treat) but if you give me a bag of peanut m & m’s and I’ll inhale the bag in not time flat. Finally, watch out for beer, that’s a diet killer.

Sorry for spouting off advice- I’m just excited for you and your Mrs. Keep it up!
