Also including bonus story ‘A Magical Melody‘.
When a lethal spell is stolen from a locked and warded room, Avram must hunt down the thief before the song of power buries a city of innocents beneath a thousand tonnes of ice.
Confronting the Demon by Ciara Ballintyne magically packs action, intrigue, love and fear into a very short, but intense and dark read! Her writing is crisp, she gets to the point and creates scenes that rolled past my “mental screen” in vivid detail. The conflict has that “sinister-dark” feel, but the romance balances that out with moments of lightness and even humor! A lot of story for those “not a lot of time, but I want to read” times!
In a special bonus short story, A Magical Melody, the sheet music to a magically enhanced piece is missing on the night it was to played in concert. Avram, the composer may have been deceived by a beautiful woman in a moment of passion. Will his weakness bring down another ice age on the world?
The banter (and mental dialogue) between the two main characters has a touch of humor and snark that was entertaining as they attempt to head off a possible disaster.
I received a review edition in exchange for my honest review from the author!
Ballintyne gives wonderful descriptions and I found myself becoming lost in the magic of her words in a picturesque world with every turned page. From the hellcats to the creature like Legion the demonic is called forth by his enemy to destroy Alloran and his beloved. Read to see if he can truly control the demon realm and find out who has the strongest magic and what price has to be paid. This is a tale I will read again. Join Alloran in Confronting the Demon.
I absolutely loved the book. It is in my favorite genre and the pace is quick. You learn enough about Alloran from the very first page to start rooting for him, and, as the bodies start turning up, the suspense heats up along with them.
My only complaint is that it’s too short! I read it in about an hour (I’m a fairly fast reader though), and I was sad when it ended because I didn’t want to leave the world Ciara Ballintyne had created. I will definitely be reading any other books written by her in the future!
