TR: Hi Emily! So glad you dropped by today!
EG: Hi Thomas…it’s great to be here 🙂
TR: Thank you. So, what do you say we roll this thing? How old were you when you wrote your first piece?
TR: A lady never reveals her age… “The Light-Bearer Series” is only a year and three months old! I was not a writer. I had this movie playing in my head for a couple weeks and told myself, ‘Emily, just sit and write it out.’ I was really surprised to learn that it is unusual not to write like it was flowing out of you with no abandon. I have NEVER faced writer’s block! I guess because I didn’t know any better, it was not unusual to me to sit and write for hours at a time.
TR: Aren’t you the lucky one? And another late bloomer. I’m in good company 🙂 So “Light-Bearer” your first. Tell us a bit on how you got through all three so fast.
EG: I wrote “The Light-Bearer Series” which was first comprised of “Charmeine,” “Mactus,” and “Accendo,” in record time… 100,000 Words in about a week. They are Paranormal Romance, Young Adult, Romance, Present Day, Historical, Action and Adventure. Then I went through “Charmeine,” “Mactus,” and “Accendo” for a couple more weeks doing re-writes staying up late at night because I was back to work, and ended up with 140K plus meaning three novels!!!
TR: Whoa – that’s amazing! Well, what made you write it in the first place?
EG: I wanted a story told about a love that would last an eternity… but with that love there would be sorrow, struggles and problems to overcome.I always loved English and American Literature along with Paranormal Novels, especially vampire stories. My passion was American and English Literature, authors like Brahms Stoker, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley.
TR: Some pretty good folks to follow. And I never knew that was her middle name. Learn something new every day, don’t you? So, what are you working on currently?
EG: I am currently writing “Conundrum” the Sixth Novel in “The Light-Bearer Series.”
TR: Nice. You’re in it for the long haul, eh? What was the inspiration for “Conundrum”?
EG: I fantasized about a couple who had to fight Heaven and Hell to be together. It is about a Blood-Hunter and Light-Bearer who are total opposites and fall in love. Really it is about Tabbruis and Charmeine, but also their family! They battle all sorts of evil on the Earth. Their family continues to grow but love and romance remain the focus of the series.
TR: That sounds pretty intriguing – tell us a little more about it, and where it’s available.
Can romance develop between a Heavenly Light-Bearer and a Hellish Vampire Blood-Hunter? Tabbruis is a Blood-Hunter (Vampire). Over 8 millennia he wandered the Earth alone aimlessly living through many historical events. Charmeine came to the Earth in 1997. Both of them were unable to remember anything before they woke up on Earth.
When Tabbruis meets Charleen (aka Charmeine) the attraction is immediate. They clash and romance and drama ensues. When she meets him, her powers as a Light-Bearer, (one who throws lightning) is revealed and grows.

TR: Very nice…thank you. Now, is there a particular place or setting where you get your writing ideas?
EG: I write on my couch with the laptop on my lap, or at my kitchen table. I write mostly at night. I like to sit for hours at a time and write with no interruptions, hence a lot of all-nighters!
TR: Well, you certainly picked the quietest time of day. So, are you an indie author or traditionally published?
EG: Eight months after I self-published, I signed with PDMI Freelance Publishing. It’s still like being an Independent but they offer so much help with book covers, ebook and book formatting and help with my websites! ANY help with your books is awesome! I have so many opportunities which I am grateful and thankful for through them! It gives me a headache to think about the possibilities in the future for “The Light-Bearer Series.” Something wild this way comes…
TR: That’s interesting. Never heard of that type of set-up. Sounds like the best of both worlds. Okay, if you had to choose the most important element in an author’s platform, what would it be?
EG: That is a GOOD Question! Help other Authors starting out! Be kind and give advice, not criticism. I try to be nice to other people, not take myself too seriously, and always have a sense of humor. I love the concept of “Paying it Forward” too. I have to tell you that I believe every kindness bestowed on you should be given out in kind. I’m not a saint by any means but I try to make an extra effort to be kind.
TR: Superb advice, that is. We’re all a community, aren’t we? No competition among authors, as far as I’ve seen. Here’s my favorite question – what mistakes have you made in regards to publishing and marketing your work, and what will you do differently in the future?
EG: My worst criticism is the editing on OLD Editions which are out in circulation. When I first started, I didn’t know ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT PUBLISHING!!! I would have never given away copies of my book without it being edited. Most people who read the OLD Editions are very harsh… but they get these files without paying for them from friend passing it to friend and don’t check to see their edition is VERY OLD! I really don’t know how to fight it, because you can never say anything to a reviewer. I have to keep my mouth shut! However, if they would have just checked with me, I would have GLADLY given them the new editions! Also I would definitely have a warning label that says, DO NOT READ if you don’t like Angels and/or God!” I can’t tell you how many reviewers have said they didn’t like it because it mentioned God. Well, it seems natural if you are talking about Angels; you make a reference to God. The books aren’t Christian, but I had to talk about God and mention Him.
TR: Wow…that’s tough, having old – and what you now know is sub-par – stuff out there. Well, nothing you can do. Just show them you can write now. So, what’s coming after “Conundrum”?
EG: I haven’t really thought about it much, to tell the truth. I like centering myself on my current project. After that’s done, then we’ll see.
TR: Fair enough. Keep me posted. 🙂
EG: I’ll do that…
TR: Emily, it was certainly a pleasure. I had a blast! And all the best with your writing – stay in touch 🙂
EG: Thanks, Thomas. I had fun too 🙂
There you are, folks…Emily Guido and her “Light-Bearer” series. The books sound great – what are you doing still here? Go get one or three!
